Nokia XR20

The Nokia XR20 gets unveiled today as could be expected. HMD Global has been teasing the device as one of its strongest rugged smartphone and based on what we see today, it seem to be so. Its ruggedness however attract an heavier price.

Let's start with what makes the XR20 special, first of all, it is MIL-STD-810H certified, meaning it has been built to withstand a lot of harsh conditions such as drop, scratch, abnormal high and low pressure, abnormal temperature, heat among others.

According to Nokia, the phone can survive a fall from 1.5 meters without shattering. In addition, it can also be submerged to a depth of up to 1.5 meters in water up to 30 minutes. In summary, it can be used in harsh environments where other phones may not survive.

Moreover, the XR20 uses Corning strongest glass protector, the Gorrila Victus, for its screen. Users will be able to operate the phone with wet hands or with gloves without any issue. Speaking of the screen, the device has a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400x1080) display with punch-hole at the dead center, which accommodates an 8MP selfie camera.

Powering the hardware is a 5G-activated Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 octa-core chipset, paired with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The storage included is 128GB (UFS 2.1), which can be further expanded via MicroSD card. The MicroSD tray is joined together with the SIM tray so users can receive calls on two SIMs at a time, or on one SIM card when MicroSD card is plugged in.

Photography is handled by a dual camera system at the rear; the primary lens features a 48MP sensor with f/1.79 aperture and ZEISS optics, while the secondary is a 13MP ultra-wide lens (123°) with an f/2.4 aperture. These are accompanied by dual LED flash for low-light shots.

The Nokia XR20 boots Android 11 operating system out-of-the-box. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a dedicated Google assistant button, and a special customizable button at the top. Sound is produced by dual stereo speakers embedded at the top and the bottom, both enhanced by OZO.
