Sharp Aquos Wish launches in Japan, the most compact 5G smartphone yet

Sharp today present its latest entry-level 5G smartphone in Japan, the Aquos Wish. The device is compact and is made to be easy to operate with one hand - it measure 147x71x8.9mm (LxWxH) and weigh just 162 grams. Its outer shell is made of plastic themed in three beautiful colors, Olive Green, Ivory, and Charcoal.

Let's talk about the specs - the Aquos Wish features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD screen that has an HD+ (1520x720) pixel resolution. The screen refreshes at 60Hz, and at the top is a dewdrop notch that houses an 8-megapixel selfie camera. A single camera 13-megapixel camera can be seen at the back, accompanied by a single LED flash.

At the side are the volume and power buttons, and a fingerprint sensor, while the primary mic, the speaker and the USB-C port are located at the bottom. The device also have 3.5mm audio jack and a secondary mic at the top.

Notably, the Aquos Wish is MIL-STD-810H certified for ruggedness and durability, and it also earned IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 8nm chipset that is running at 2.0GHz, paired with Adreno 619 GPU. 4GB RAM (LPDDR4x) and 64GB storage (UFS 2.1) are offered out-of-the-box, although the later can be further expanded via microSD card.

On the software side, the Sharp Aquos Wish boots Android 11, but the firm promised two major OS updates. Other connectivity that can be found on the device are Bluetooth 5, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), GPS/GLONASS, and NFC. Power is supplied by a 3,730mAh battery with fast charging supports.

There are no details regarding the pricing of the Aquos Wish at the moment, but it is expected to be available in Japan by mid-January 2022.
