Xiaomi announces Watch S1 waterproof smartwatch with large AMOLED screen, GPS

At its event that sees to the unravelling of its Xiaomi 12 series, Xiaomi also introduced a new smart wearable device called Watch S1. The smartwatch joins the extensive list of wearable products that the firm has released over the years, bringing with it a circular AMOLED display, SpO2 monitoring, and sleep tracking.

The screen is rather large considering its 1.43-inch size (466x466 pixel), but most users will prefer this size as it provides more space for the texts display on the screen to fit it. It is protected by Sapphire glass against daily wear. The Watch S1 uses the Xiaomi's proprietary MIUI Watch OS, which supports third-party app installation.

Moving on, the smartwatch can track 117 different sports (17 professional sports and 100 extensive sports), including hiking, snowboarding, walking, and swimming. It is 5ATM rated, meaning, it can be used in up to 50 meters deep under the water. For accurate outdoor and indoor exercises tracking, it comes with GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, and QZSS navigation systems.

Moreover, apart from fitness tracking, the Xiaomi Watch S1 can also monitor the heart rate and the blood oxygen level of the wearer. It is equipped with various sensors that help do the job, including gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetic sensor, ambient light sensor, air pressure sensor, and capacitive sensor.

It can be paired with smartphones running Android 6.0 and above or iOS 10 above via Bluetooth, and it also has Wi-Fi connectivity. When paired, users can view their phone notifications and app notifications on the smartwatch screen. The device have speaker and microphone, so, users can also make calls and receive calls right on their wrist.

In addition, the Xiaoai voice assistant that comes with the Watch OS let users operate the device via voice commands without tapping the screen. The 470mAh battery that comes with the Watch S1 can last for 12 days in a single charge, or up to 24 days in battery saving mode.

The Black color version with silicone strap is priced at CN¥1099 (US$172), while the Silver color version with leather strap will be sold for CN¥1199 (US$188). Sales will begin on December 31st in China and those order first will be given a CN¥50 discount.
