Samsung Galaxy S21 FE declared official: everything you need to know

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Update (10 January, 2021)

The Galaxy S21 FE has been officially launched in India, a week after its global announcement. The 8GB/128GB version is priced at INR 54,999, and the 8GB/256GB version at INR 58,999. Sales will begin on January 11th 2022 at Samsung stores and other leading third-party stores across the region. The Galaxy S21 FE comes with Exynos 2100 in India.

After festive period, we are back on business, and so it seem for Samsung too as the company unravel its latest galaxy smartphone today, the Galaxy S21 FE. The "FE" in the naming scheme means "Fan Edition", so literally, the device is targeted at Samsung fans around the world if that's a thing.

Let's take you back a little bit, the Fan Edition that has now become a moniker in Samsung arsenal first started when the firm faced one of its darkest moments in history - that is, when its newly-released Galaxy Note 7 smartphone turned into an exploding machine in the hands of users.

The firm stopped production and recalled all units that were sold across the continents. Few months later, the Galaxy Note FE (or Galaxy Note 7 FE) was launched, and then the journey started. And so since then we've seen the FE (Fan Edition) becoming a thing as each year goes by.

The new Galaxy S21 FE features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch sampling rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Victus. There is a tiny circle cutout above the display that accommodate the front selfie camera, which has a 32MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

Biometric security is also embedded directly into the screen - with a single touch, users can unlock their smartphones, thanks to the optical in-display fingerprint reader. At the rear are triple cameras with different configurations; the main has a 12MP f/1.8 sensor with OIS and Dual Pixel AutoFocus.

The secondary has a 12MP ultra-wide (123°) angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, while the tertiary is an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. As could be expected, the Galaxy S21 FE is waterproof and dustproof certified with IP68 ratings.

Under the hood is Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5nm chipset running the show, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. There is no microSD slot onboard in case you are wondering, but the chipset brings 5G supports. Other connectivity present are 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 802.11ax (dual band), GPS/GLONASS, USB Type-C 3.1, and NFC (with Samsung Pay).

3.5mm audio jack is not included too, so you'll have to rely on the USB Type-C port. The good news is, it supports Hi-Res audio (32-bit/384kHz) and Dolby Atmos. You also get to enjoy quality sound from the dual stereo speakers installed, tuned by AKG.

The Galaxy S21 FE boots Android 12 out-of-the-box with One UI 4 lay on top. It measures 155.7 x 74.5 x 7.9mm, and weigh 177 grams. Power is supply by a 4500mAh battery with 25W fast wired charging support and 15W fast wireless charging support.
