Redmi K50 Gaming is the first gaming smartphone to launch in 2022

Redmi K50 Gaming

The Redmi K50 Gaming is the first in the Redmi "K50" line-up to gets unveiled today with many more yet to come under the series. As its naming implies, it is targeted at gamers and its specs are finely tune to be capable in this area. First, it is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, which is the most powerful mobile processor available at the moment (although second to Apple's A15 Bionic chip).

To keep heat and throttling in check, an all-new dual vapor chamber is implemented, which keeps the temperature lower and makes the phone runs smoothly during intensive tasks. Secondly, the Redmi K50 Gaming (also known as Redmi K50G) features 120W fast wired charging that can charge its 4,700mAh built-in battery from 0% - 100% within seventeen minutes.

Thirdly, dual customizable trigger buttons are mounted to the shoulders for tap to kick, kill, or shoot or whatever the gameplay is based on, while CyberEngine X-axis haptics motor makes sure you can feel the intensity of the kicking (through vibration) as you beat the bad guys. Sound is offered by dual JBL-tuned stereo speakers for immersive experience.

Let's take a look at the display - occupying the front area is a 6.67-inch FHD+ 10-bit AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The display supports all the latest tech you can expect, including MEMC, HDR10, and TrueColor. Touch sampling rate is impressive at 480Hz, so there shouldn't be any lag or unresponsiveness.

The frame of the Redmi K50 Gaming is made of stainless steel, while the back is made from glass. Speaking of the back, there is a 16 million-color notification LED light built into the camera module that flashes and dances with cool lighting effects. The lonely rectangular island on the phone back accommodates triple cameras.

The main cam has a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor with an f/1.65 aperture, followed by 8MP ultra-wide angle lens and 2MP depth camera. At the front is a 20MP selfie snapper with Sony IMX596 sensor. Other features include side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Dolby Atmos, and infra-red sensor. But there are no microSD slot and 3.5mm audio jack.

Redmi also partnered with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team to launch a limited edition of the device. According to the firm, only ten thousand units of the special edition will be made.
