Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra Official: Everything You Need to Know (summarized)

Galaxy S22

At its Unpacked Event held earlier today, Samsung officially announced its first 2022 flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. These are here to succeed the Galaxy S21 series, and they brought noticeable upgrade in few areas.

Let's start with the smallest: the Galaxy S22 is the smallest and the most compact of the pack, featuring a 6.1-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. We have heard various complaints about smartphones getting bigger and bigger, if you are one of the few that prefer something rather small, the Galaxy S22 is for you.

It weigh just 178 grams, and it is not thick either at 7.6mm. Clearly, the only thing that differentiate the Galaxy S22 from Galaxy S22+ are the display and battery capacity. In all ramifications, the Galaxy S22+ is the same as the Galaxy S22 without the small display and the tiny battery. The Galaxy S22+ battery is beefier at 4,500mAh compared to the 3,700mAh battery on the Galaxy S22.

The Galaxy S22+ display is a bit larger too at 6.6-inch, with the same FHD+ resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate present. These displays are protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and the back. Powering these smartphones are Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4nm chipsets, but some regions will get Exynos 2200 4nm chipsets.

There are two storage options, 128GB and 256GB, both coupled with 8GB RAM. The storage are not expandable as there is no microSD slot onboard. In photography, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ sports triple rear-facing cameras (50MP+10MP+12MP) that can record 8K videos. At the front inside the punch-hole are 10MP selfie snappers.

The usual IP68 water and dust resistant are present, including in-display fingerprint sensors. None of the two have 3.5mm audio jack.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G

The cherry on the pie and the biggest of them all. The Galaxy S22 Ultra does impress with its overall design language, sleek and yet powerful. It was built not only to impress but to be the ultimate champion in the world full of competition. Enough with the praise!

This slab weight an astounding 229 grams, so it's clearly not for the faint handed (oh!). But don't worry, the Gorilla Glass Victus+ is here to protect, not only at the front but at the back too. The screen is more curvy compared to the other two above (part of what you are paying for premium), but hey! we are not complaining.

It has a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED screen with all the bells-and-whistle of the other S22. The peak brightness achievable for the display is 1750 nits. But what made the S22 Ultra special is not only about its premium display but the Stylus that comes bundled with it out-of-the-box.

Samsung has at least made it officially known that it will be discontinuing the Note series, so we are not surprise that the S22 Ultra is getting this special treatment. There are plenty of improvements and the stylus should operate smooth and buttery on the display like household pens on paper.

It is getting the same treatment in the processor segment as the vanilla S22, but it comes with up to 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. No microSD slot, but with the vast amount of storage available you shouldn't miss it.

Behind are quad cameras with a 108MP camera leading the way, followed by dual 10MP telephoto cameras and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. These can capture video in 8K resolution. At the front is a 40MP camera for selfie. Other specs are in rhythm with the S22 and S22+ down to the battery compartment, where there is a notable difference.

The S22 Ultra packed the largest battery - a 5000mAh battery to be precise. It supports 45W fast wired charging and 15W fast wireless charging.
