Sharp still seem to be in the smartphone business as the firm today announced a new device in Japan called AQUOS R7. Since the past few years, the firm has made its smartphone products available exclusively in Japan and we expect the new one not to differ in any way.

For a start, the AQUOS R7 have the latest hardwares that money can buy today. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4nm processor, which is Qualcomm's most powerful processor at the moment. Also, it has Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for biometrics.

Coupled with the processor are 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. Notably, the storage can be expanded up to 1TB via microSD slot. Occupying the entire front is a crisp 6.6-inch (1260 x 2730 pixels) IGZO OLED display with a small chin at the bottom.

The display offers adaptive refresh rate that ranges between 1Hz and 240Hz depending on the contents on the screen. At the back of the AQUOS R7 you will find two cameras with Leica Sumicron lens - the first has a 47.2MP 1" sensor with f/1.9 aperture and EIS, while the later is a 1.9MP sensor ToF AF camera for portraits.

A single 12.6MP camera with an f/2.3 aperture resides inside the punch-hole at the top of the screen for taking selfie. The device is water and dust resistant certified (IPX5/IPX8/IP6X), and it comes with Android 12 operating system pre-installed.

In terms of connectivity, it support 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6 (dual band), Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and USB-C. Power is sourced from a 5,000mAh non-removable battery mounted on its back with fast charging supports.

The Sharp AQUOS R7 is scheduled to be available sometime in July exclusively on NTT Docomo and Softbank, although its pricing is yet to be announced. It come in two different colors, Black and Silver.
